Meet Cheryl

Cheryl Obermiller is an expert in small business fraud. As the owner of Obermiller Construction, she built a business from the ground up to become a successful multi-million dollar company that employs dozens of men and women. And she did it after undergoing a betrayal and embezzlement from a trusted employee; dealing with an out-of-control aggressive IRS representative; spearheading the prosecution that sent the embezzler to prison; and did it while raising eight children.

She is author of FraudPoints! The Small Business Owners’ Guide to Outwitting Embezzlers, Thieves, and Scallywags. As a frequent speaker and media guest, she reveals the discovery of the embezzlement of her company over an eight-year period, and how small businesses (under 100 employees) can discover through her unique FraudPoints System if fraud is in play, how to deal with it, and how to successfully prevent it from happening.

Owakudani is a volcanic valley in Hakone, Japan. We ate eggs cooked in the hot mineral springs, which turns the shells black. We were visiting the family of our Japanese exchange student, Riona.

We visited our Chinese exchange student, Shujun, in Beijing. Her family treated us to an extravagant meal, which included scorpions! They were crispy and well-seasoned. I did wait until our hosts ate a few before trying them myself, just to be sure it wasn’t a practical joke!

Visiting St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, Austria. It is a beautiful building, and a very peaceful place for private contemplation.

When visiting a mosque in Delhi India, I was provided with a robe before entering to be respectful of the dress standards of the worshipers.

It was a lovely experience, and I was treated kindly by everyone there.
